The candy I bought was called Maltesers. I put in the numbers and letters for the candy: 1250 CE. I opened the slit to get my Maltesers and suddenly I felt this dizzy feeling and I blacked out. Turns out that Maltesers are British candy and 1250 CE is the year I traveled back in time.
I appeared at a castle and I saw a very strange sight. I saw knights, lords and ladies, and men with tights on. I heard everybody talking a strange language that sounded like latin. I didn't know how I was ever going to understand anybody. Then I reached into my pocket and I felt my phone. I could use google translate I realized! I walked up to somebody that looked important and I told him through google translate that I was a baron and I had come to see his castle. He responded saying that King Edward had recently conquered much of Wales and that his castle was built to hold King Edward's conquest. He said his castle took about 5 years to be built with expert stone masons and craftsmen. The man said he had strong walls and a large moat. Another thing that interested me was that he said there were small and long holes in some of the walls so that archers could shoot through them without getting hit easily.
He also explained the history of the castle and how it was built. He said he built the castle on a artificial hill called a motte so that enemies would have to come up the hill. This would also allow the knights in the watchtower to see the attackers coming. To make the artificial hill they had to dig out dirt which is how they built the moat. They had two drawbridges and a tower keep. A tower keep was a rectangular building that was usually around two or three stories high. The first story didn't have any windows so that it could be defended, and the second story had a large hall, a chapel, and a couple rooms for the lord's family. Finally, the third floor had defensive structures like towers. Next, something else that I learned was that after the first crusade the cultural exchange led to better castle technology including stone castles. Most castles had an attacking position and a last stand position for times of attack.
Then he went on to talk about some of the weapons they had. One of the weapons Englishmen had were crossbows and longbows. Crossbows were probably the most common bow because they were easy to use. Despite having a 150-500 pound drawback weight, bowmen could use mechanical devices such as cranks or loops to help them pull back the string. Longbows took a lot of training, but they were deadly in battle. You could fire many arrows very quickly and the strength of the bow could pierce armor. However, since you could fire the arrows so quickly, you quickly ran out of arrows and if your defense failed then all your bowmen would easily die. Since it took years of training to fire a longbow and all your bowmen died in a battle. They thought that the longbow's popularity would decline. Also, another good thing about the long bow was that you could fire arrows from long range with deadly accuracy.
I thanked the man for the tour and I walked back to the vending machine. There was a crowd gathered around it and I thought this wasn't going to be good. The crowd was looking at the machine wondering what it was and what was in it. I pushed my way forward just wanting to get home. Then I realized I didn't have any money! What was I going to do! Suddenly, I felt in my pocket and my phone was there. I gasped, sometimes I kept emergency money behind my phone case. Hopefully I didn't take it out and spend it on snacks. I got my phone out and took off my case. I let out a sigh of relief. I had a five dollar bill. I inserted the bill and got a bag of maltesers. I took the bag and showed it to the crowd. Then I tossed it as far and high as I could and I watched them chase after it. Then I got a Twix bar and typed in the numbers 2014. When I went to get my candy bar I was transported back home.
